Life in a Day - a documentary shot in a single day by you

Life in a Day is a global experiment to create the world's largest user-generated feature film: a documentary, shot in a single day, by you.

On 24th July 2010, you have 24 hours to capture a glimpse of your life on camera. The most compelling and distinctive footage will be edited into an experimental documentary film, executive produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Kevin Macdonald (Touching the Void, Last King of Scotland).

Everyone that will appear in the film will be credited as a co-director of the documentary and 20 of those chosen to be featured in the film will be flown to attend the premiere at Sundance Film Festival 2011.

I love this idea. Something on this scale has never been done before, it's going to be one epic snapshot of a day on Earth. I'm planning to take part, although I have no idea what I will film yet.

The rules are very simple and you can even use your mobile phone to shoot. It's up to you how much you want to shoot and submit, you can even shoot in any language you wish. The point is, think about what you want to shoot and get your camera rolling on 24th July. More information about guidelines, dos and don'ts can be found on the Life in a Day website.

Here's Kevin Macdonald talking about this project.

Kevin Macdonald invited Christiaan Van Vuuren (aka The Fully Sick Rapper) to put together this video, to give you an example and of what you can submit and to inspire you to create your own video.

In case you don't know Christiaan van Vuuren, he gained YouTube star status after posting rap videos from his hospital room during his six months quarantine due to Tuberculosis. He's finally been released from the hosipital and has more video projects coming up. This video is quite touching and hope it inspires you to share your life in a day on 24th July.
