Tour de France in Bologna

On June 30, the last day of Il Cinema Ritrovato, the 2nd stage of Tour de France ended in Bologna. I’ve never paid much attention to Tour de France, but after leaving a film screening, I found myself waiting on the streets alongside other spectators waiting for the cyclists to whizz through.

I didn’t realise how close we could get to see them in action. I enjoyed seeing them pass by so fast, and the people watching was fun too. I imagine if this took place in Dubai, we would be asked to stay home.

My experience with Bologna is mostly associated with cinema, and gelato, so it was nice to experience a slightly different side to it.

When I got back to my room, I saw several team buses on the street, and lots of fans waiting and cheering for the cyclists. I then spotted a bus that had a UAE sign on it and learned for the first time that there’s a UAE Team Emirates team in Tour de France.
On July 2, this happened:

Stage 4 of the Tour de France was won in style by Tadej Pogacar in Valloire, with the UAE Team Emirates rider attacking on the Galibier climb before descending to the finish line to reclaim the Yellow Jersey.

These are photos I took on the afternoon of June 30.

Dedicating this post to Matthew G, a first timer at Il Cinema Ritrovato, and during one of our walks he told me about Tour de France coming to Bologna and was disappointed he’d miss it because it was scheduled two days after his flight out of Bologna.
