The Culturist Film Club: Les Félins / Joy House

The next edition of The Culturist Film Club will be on Sunday, April 13 at 11am at Alliance Francaise in Dubai. I’ve selected a thriller from Alliance Francaise’s film library, starring Alain Delon and Jane Fonda. We will also try screening on a Sunday morning instead of evenings on a mid-week. If in Dubai, hope you can join me. You can’t go wrong watching a classic film on a big screen on a Sunday morning.

Joy House / Les Félins
Director: René Clément

1963, France, 96 min, French with English Subtitles

A scorching love triangle ignites between the iconic Jane Fonda, sultry Lola Albright and Alain Delon in René Clément’s Joy House (Les Félins). Delon stars as Marc, a dashing young con man on the run from the mob. After seeking refuge in the Riviera villa of the widowed Barbara (Albright) and her curvaceous cousin, Melinda (Fonda), Marc becomes trapped in the passionate snares of both women, who are full of sinister surprises.

A neglected masterpiece from director René Clément, Joy House weaves a wicked web of hidden desires and all-too-human corruptions. Lalo Schifrin provides the eerie musical score; Henri Decaë serves up the sumptuous cinematography. — Kino Lorber
