RIP Steve Jobs

Sad news about Steve Jobs.

Hearing the news made me remember when I first laid my eyes on a Mac which was in the mid 1980s. It was at my friend's house and as I was admiring it, I remember my friend telling me how the Mac is such an easy computer to use, that anyone can use it. For some reason, that description always stayed with me and in any Apple vs Microsoft debates, I've  always sided with Apple.

I owned my first Apple product (MacBook Pro) around five years ago and I immediately felt the difference compared to any other PCs/laptops I worked on. I recently bought a MacBook Air and I'm in love with it. Today, I see my very young nephews at ease using the iPad and iPhone and it just goes to show these products can be used by anyone and any age.

Steve Jobs brought us innovation, style and function which has touched many lives. I spent the evening reading and watching some of the very many tributes online. Here are three videos I'd like to share with you to remember and honor him.

From 1984 - Steve Jobs' "State of the Union" key note speech introducting the Apple IIc at the Moscone Center

From 1997 - Steve Jobs narrates the first Think different commercial "Here's to the Crazy Ones". It never aired. They ended up using Richard Dreyfuss' voice for the commercial.

From 2005 - Steve Jobs' Stanford Commencement Address

This is a classic speech which is worth listening to again (you can read the full trasnscript here). It's the only befitting tribute I could think of to end this post.

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.

RIP Steve Jobs.
