Highlights from Eurovision Song Contest 2022
Following up from my previous post about Eurovision, I decided to share my favourite moments from this year’s competition.
The Eurovision Song Contest claims it “celebrates diversity through music”, but it’s hard to forget or ignore the fact that things are not going well in Europe and the rest of the world for that matter. With the rise of far-right politics, racism, the invasion of Ukraine, I was hoping to see a protest stunt or two live on air, and for at least one of the two angry songs to win, Ukraine and Serbia.
In the end, Ukraine won, surprising no one, but it was also good to see Serbia’s Konstrakta singing about healthcare.
Biti zdrava, biti zdrava
Biti zdrava, biti-biti-biti-biti zdrava
Biti zdrava, biti zdrava
Biti zdrava mora, mora, mora
Translation:
To be healthy, to be healthy, to be healthy,
To be, to be, to be
To be healthy, to be healthy, to be healthy,
To be, to be, to be
Here are rest of my favourite moments from Eurovision 2022, I will start with Chanel from Spain who was not there to kid around. The most energetic performance of the competition this year, and lots of ‘booty’.
Take a video
Watch it slo mo, mo, mo, mo, mo
Booty hypnotic
Make you want more, more, morе, more, more
Voy a bajarlo hasta el suеlo, lo, lo, lo, lo(Yeah)
If you wish, you could do this dembow (Do this dembow)
Drives you loco (Yeah)
Take a video, watch it slo mo
Favourite dance songs, We Are Domi - Lights Off and Alvan & Ahez - Fulenn.
Favourite sad songs, Maro - Saudade Saudade and Amanda Georgiadi Tenford - Die Together.
Saudade, saudade
Nothing more that I can say says it in a better way I‘ve tried, alright, but it‘s killing me inside Thought you‘d be by my side always
Are you having a good time
Doesn‘t seem like you‘re all fine
We don‘t laugh anymore
And when we cry we do it on our own
Favourite dress - Monika Liu. I like the song too.
The stage lighting and the sparkly dress looked perfect. Designed by founder of the fashion house MÁS 924, Monika Kazakevičiūtė-Kriščiūnienė, the dress was initially designed for a non-Eurovision show.
“The glossy fabric of the dress is also one, limited edition. I bought it myself in Milan, but it’s no longer available and can’t be bought. So Monika’s dress is the only one.” via
It should be in a museum.
Songs that have grown on me. Cornelia Jakobs - Hold Me Closer and S10 - De Diepte.
Most handsome, Alvan from France and Stefan from Estonia. Also “named the country’s Sexiest Man of the Year by the popular magazine Kroonika”.
Strangest and funniest song and performance, Subwoolfer - Give That Wolf A Banana.
Not sure I told, but I really like your teeth
That hairy coat of yours with nothing underneath
Not sure you have a name so, I will call you Keith
Interval acts during the First Semi-final event. This is why I don’t just watch the final.
The Dance of Beauty, a medley celebrating decades of Italian dance music and Italo-disco featuring Benny Benassi, Dardust and Sophie and the Giants.
Fai Rumore by Diodata, the song he would have sung in Rotterdam 2020. Very moving.
Ma fai rumore sì
Che non lo posso sopportare
Questo silenzio innaturale
E non ne voglio fare a meno oramai
Di quel bellissimo rumore che fai
Translation:
But make noise, yes
Because I can't stand
This unnatural silence
And now I don't want to do without
This beautiful noise you make
Last, but not least, a shout out to the three presenters, Alessandro Cattelan, Laura Paucini and Mika who were delightful and fun to watch on the both nights of the Semi-Finals and the Grand Final, and each one had a spotlight on stage.
Extra love for Laura Paucini for La solitudine, a song I listened to a lot in the 1990s.
