Film Screenings with Robert Shaye, Founder of New Line Cinema

I just found out ImageNation Abu Dhabi is hosting a series of talks and film screenings with Robert Shaye, founder of New Line Cinema. It’s already underway and a couple more are happening in the next two days.

Here’s the line up:

October 28, 7.00 pm
Vox Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (Peter Jackson, 2003)

October 29 at 7.00 pm
Vox Cinemas, Nation Towers, Abu Dhabi
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (Peter Jackson, 2003)

October 30, 8.00 pm
Al Ain Oasis
The Mask (Chuck Russell, 1994)

October 31, 7.00 pm
Vox Cinemas, Nation Towers, Abu Dhabi
A Nightmare on Elm Street (Wes Craven, 1984)

All the screenings are free to attend and you can register by sending an email to bobshaye.event@imagenation.ae

It is unfortunate that an event like this was hardly promoted or publicised, by ImageNation Abu Dhabi themselves, or Vox Cinemas where the films are shown.

I found out by seeing a tweet posted today by Image Nation. After trying to find more information online (nothing is posted on ImageNation’s website or listed on Vox Cinema’s website), I found this article that was published yesterday on The National. This too, didn’t list all the events.

If you are not familiar with Robert Shaye, here’s a quick introduction

With 42 years in distribution and production, during which time New Line grew to become one of the most successful mini-majors of the era, Shaye knows more than his fair share about making it in movies.

His studio’s successes include Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street series, the Austin Powers trilogy and, more recently, Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings. (via The National)

Was this a last minute organised event? I can’t image it is. It’s not like Robert Shaye happened to be in the neighbourhood and decided to give us a talk and present 3 films.

Organisations and venues not promoting their events isn’t new here, but this level of poor publicity for Robert Shaye is quite abysmal.
